Community Standards for UKABS JISC email list
Incidents of inappropriate behaviour have been vanishingly rare on the UKABS JISC email list, but in line with best practice the UKABS Committee has decided to draw up the following code of conduct for members who use the list.
*****
The primary purpose of this list is for UKABS to provide information to members which relates to Buddhist Studies and which Committee members consider to be of interest. It is not intended to be a moderated discussion forum, but on occasion members may feel moved to reply to a post. In such circumstances, please consider the following:
- Behave professionally. Be courteous, respectful, and cognisant of cultural differences and sensitivities.
- Be constructive in your questions and discussions. Do not insult or put down other members.
- Harassment and sexist, racist, or exclusionary comments or jokes are not appropriate. Harassment includes sustained vexatious emails, sexual attention or innuendo, intimidation, stalking, and circulation of an individual’s comments without their knowledge or consent. It also includes offensive comments related to protected characteristics: https://www.gov.uk/discrimination-your-rights
- All communication should be appropriate for a professional audience including people of many different backgrounds.
Participants asked to stop any inappropriate behaviour are expected to comply immediately. Attendees violating these rules may be removed from the email list – although not from UKABS – at the sole discretion of the UKABS Committee.
Any participant who wishes to report a violation of this policy or to seek support is asked to contact, in confidence, the President or Secretary of UKABS.
